Modern Warfare 3 is the 8th game of Activision’s hit series Call of Duty. It is the third game made in the Modern Warfare series by Infinity Ward with the help of Scavenger and Treyarch. The game features both Single player and Multiplayer and a Spec-ops mode which is returning from Modern Warfare 2 allowing players to play by themselves or with their friends completing challenges on various difficulties.

Gameplay - 7.5/10
Single player 6.5/10
The single player gameplay was an okay experience but short lived like most modern shooters. You play most of the game as a ground soldier in first-person view. At some points of the game you do control other things such as Chopper Gunner spraying your enemies with raining lead or a mortar destroying things from a far. The single player was again a let down from Infinity ward and Treyarch not living up to the hype they created around it. The Spec ops mode is an updated version from Modern Warfare 2 giving the player various ways to test their skills in missions based from the campaign that can be played Co-op. A new mode called Survival was introduced in Modern Warfare 3, in which the player must survive against waves of enemies on the multiplayer maps. The enemies vary from attack dogs, to suicide bombers to even helicopters and juggernauts.

Multiplayer 8.5/10
Multiplayer is completely different from the single player campaign. The main factor for me is Class Set up allowing you change the way you play, which allows you to make the game better for you to play rather than the generic design of single player. With the various amounts of Weapons, Attachments, Perks and kill streaks give countless possibilities for you to choose from. The various maps also change the way you play the game allowing you to play a Short-Range or Long-Range. With these various factors it changes the way you play multiplayer leading to a new experience every game. Another factor of multiplayer is the various challenges that you can complete within the game rewarding you with XP and maybe even a title or emblem. The downside to these challenges is they are exactly the same as the Modern Warfare 2, which is really boring for experienced players as they have already finished them all.

Story - 5/10 (Single player)
The story was neither good nor bad but it just didn’t have any qualities of a good story. The plot of the story is you are trying to catch a terrorist named Makarov who is trying to take over the world (Like most bad guys). It features the returning characters of Soap, Price and Nikolai after the events of Modern Warfare 2.The reason the story is average is that it is missing that “Surprise Factor”. Throughout the game you pretty much know what is going to happen and there was only one part that really surprised me. Overall Call of Duty has never been known for a good story so it doesn’t really surprise me that the story is bad.

Display 8/10
Visual 8/10
In terms of display Modern Warfare 3 is pretty good. One of the things that are shown a lot in games is buildings that are really generic and basic just because you cannot go inside them or they don’t serve a purpose, this is not present a lot in Modern Warfare 3. Most of the buildings have the same quality graphics as the ones you can enter and this is really good to see. Shadowing is another good visual in Modern Warfare 3, the shadows actually look real, making the game feel more realistic.

Sound 8/10
Sound is done well in this game and one of the key reasons for this is realistic like sounds. After there is a loud explosion near you, you can hear high pitch ringing, as if the explosion was next to you, making you apart of the action. One of the things that also surprised me was footsteps. The footsteps sound very real and Infinity ward have done a great job with them.

Modern Warfare 3 was probably one of the best games of 2011 but it don’t live up to the hype they made around it and was a disappointment not just for me but a lot of people that were thinking big things from this game. Overall it was still a good game just disappointing, it has still given me countless hours of fun and I recommend to anyone that likes shooters and hasn’t got this one give it a try. I just hope that the next game in the series is an improvement and something new and original as they have portrayed it as.
