PC is the fastest growing platform - EA

PC gaming is the fastest growing market in the industry, according to EA CEO John Riccitiello, who says numbers from US industry tracker NPD don't accurately represent what is happening in gaming.

"Just five years ago people said that the PC game business was in a radical state of decline because NPD said it was down 10 percent, 20 percent, 30 percent, year-in year-out," Riccitiello told CNBC.

"The fastest growing platform for video games today is the PC, but it's growing through subscriptions, through micro transactions and through downloads."

Those numbers aren't considered in most sales charts, but are were the most growth is occurring.

well 5 years ago, consoles were pretty damn new...

PC was always going to climb when the consoles aged in time and in time, the PC was able to gain new ways of transactions but still that's not to say everything is rosie.

Some companies still refuse to port the games over properly, EA you're one of those offenders and DLC and modding tools are a joke but whatever.

the good news is PC are picking up again through various 'channels' and will continue to do so until the next generation of console swing by once more and then we'll see how healthy it really is.

NPD never had data from DD or any of the aforementioned micro-transactions and such. The biggest gap in the sales data would be that it completely bypasses Steam. Seriously, who the **** do you know who games on PC and does NOT primarily use Steam?

Steam is massive now, grows 100% year on year and think it has since... 2004? I dunno - several years now, put it that way. If Steam is constantly growing it only makes sense that retail sales/NPD data would decline.
