Onlive in second generation Google TV's

by Trabman 3 Comments 9 Votes 1163 Views 13/07/2012 Back to News

Following a deal with chip manufacturer Marvell, Onlive's techniques will be implanted in Google's second-generation tv sets. This means we will be able to stream games directly from the tv, without any unneccesary extra's.

Marvell manufactures the ARMADA 1500 chipset for smart tv's and set-top-boxes, which includes Google's second generation tv's.

Onlive founder and CEO Steve Perlman says:

OnLive’s focus is to make the highest quality gaming accessible to everyone, anywhere and anytime they want it. With Marvell under the hood, we are able to deliver the highest-quality, on-demand gaming experience on groundbreaking devices and systems like Google TV,”

Online streaming is starting to become more popular by the second; only recently Sony bought Gaikai for future use in their own hardware, nota bene for the next gen playstation. We can expect to hear a lot more from online streaming services the upcoming months.

This makes a lot of sense. Keen to see where this goes but I probably won't be an early adopter.
yeah I definitely wouldn't be an early adopter. I know onlive have been around a while and still have made a big splash onto the scene at least here in Australia. Google have like no credentials regarding gaming but I assume this will probably pick up if rumours way back come to fruition about them building an online social gaming network (though I think they need to concentrate harder on G+)

I know Sony has partnered up with Google with google tv but I think gaikai is ahead of the curve with integration especially since prior to the sony acquisition they had already made their moves on LG and Samsung TV's.
I've moved this to the PC channel. It has no relevance to Wii or Wii U.

But it's great. I'll wait a couple of generations but I can't wait until this technology is more efficient.
