Microsoft won't launch a new console until early 2014 (spring in North America), according to industry analyst Michael Pachter.
Speaking in a research note, the Wedbush analyst said that both Sony and Microsoft were "widely expected to launch consoles by year-end 2013". However, Micrsoft might hold off "until spring of 2014" to "accomodate what is certain to be overwhelming demand among hardcore gamers".
Mr Pachter's comments come after GameStop CEO, Paul Raines, said only one new console would launch in 2013. Nintendo's new console, Wii U, is expected this holiday season, with "another one next year, and another one in '14", said Mr Raines.
