Microsoft ditching MS points sooner than expected?

Fellow gaming website Save and Quit have reported sightings of real currency for the first time on the Xbox Live Marketplace, as pictured above.

Earlier this year Microsoft stated that they would be phasing out the microsoft points system in favour of real money, but will microsoft points be gone sooner than expected? No word from MS as of yet but we'll presume that the appearance of real currency is a glitch and wasn't meant to be released quite so soon.

Points are, mind the pun, absolutely pointless. With the Wii they made some sense (1000=$10.00) but it's chaos in Xbox-land. [Facepalm]
