Halo series has sold 46 million copies

With less than a week to go before the launch of Halo 4, Microsoft has revealed the series has a whole has sold over 46 million copies since it launched on the Xbox in 2001 (2002 in Australia).

Big on numbers, Microsoft revealed that equates to US $3 billion in revenue and has led to 5 billion hours of playtime on Xbox Live.

No wonder why Microsoft keeps milking this series. I wonder how much Fable and Forza has sold as they are the only 3 games Microsoft keep milking. Why can't they bring out something new.

I hardly see a major release every 2-4 years as milking the game. Halo 3 was left with an open ended finish, suggesting it would continue afterwards.

We have had a run of halo games over the last few years since halo 3: halo CE, ODST, reach, halo wars and now H4. (I realize that Hal wars is not really the same as it is an rts and not an fps but my point was about content related to the halo universe )

At least it a new addition isn't churned out each and every year like COD...
