Earning Achievements now unlocks rebates on Xbox LIVE Marketplace

Microsoft has launched a new Xbox LIVE Rewards scheme where gamers will receive certain rewards and discounts on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace after achieving Gamerscore milestones.

CONTENDER
If you've unlocked between 3,000-9,999 Gamerscore on your Xbox LIVE profile, you'll be sent a "Special Gift" on your birthday. According to Microsoft the discount will only amount to 15p.

CHAMPION
Earning between 10,000-24,999 Gamerscore you'll be entitled to a birthday gift and 1% rebates on all purchases from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace every month.

LEGEND
Unlocking a 25,000 Gamerscore will give you 2% rebate on all purchases every month as well as a birthday gift.

You'll have to sign up to the offer by activating the rewards scheme on your Xbox LIVE Gold account.

Those discounts can be applied to Games on Demand, Arcade Games, Game Add-ons and Avatar items but purchases of MS points or Xbox LIVE memberships are excluded.
You can also earn free MS points by taking part in surveys and buying items on Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

What do you think of this new incentive? Are you happy with the service or do you believe it's time that Microsoft give up the points system and do something similar to what Sony offers with the PlayStation Plus Subscription and benefits

Sounds like they're quickly copying what Nintendo are doing with their Premium WiiU. With the WiiU promotion, you get back a 10% rebate on all Digital purchases for the first 2 years. So you spend $50, you get $5 added to your account. Its not a 10% discount as some people thought it was.

Of course i could be wrong i haven't read the fine print, but all i see from the article is the writer possibly getting rebate and discount muddled up.

The fact that it says "EVERY MONTH" indicates too its likely a rebate. So whatever you spend during the course of a month, at the end of the month, you get back 1-2% of your Microsoft points as a free rebate.

I couldn't careless anymore, their meaningless and show i've had way too much time on my hands.
To be honest i've stopped playing my Xbox so much these days prefering my PC.
I was just hoping more from this when i heard about it earlier in the year.

Cheers mate. I thought it was discount when I was reading up on it. The picture clearly states rebates and obviously rebates aren't as enticing as discounts are!

Trust me, it sucks. I just got my "birthday surprise" in my e-mail today, and all I got from those cheap, greedy bastards was 20 worthless MS points! 20! I knew it would suck. I have a Champion Achievement rank! First Microsoft f**ks up my favorite game developer Rare, and then they make a big deal over worthless rewards!
