It has been widely believed that Microsoft has been working on a new and improved Kinect motion-gaming peripheral alongside its next console launch. While leaks and talks of the new Xbox has been occurring, it looks like we can now add Kinect 2.0. to the rumour discussions.
Earlier this morning, a Twitter user posted what is claimed to be Kinect 2.0. in action, running on Microsoft's "Durango" (believed to be the next Xbox codename) development kit. The image shows an adult and child standing next to each other and which shows far greater detail, depth and movement recognition than what is possible in the first-generation Kinect.
The authenticity of the image is, of course in question, but The Verge claims that one of their sources has said it's a "genuine test sample" of the Durango Xbox Development Kit, and that "the user interface is the same as shown in the picture, according to one person familiar with Durango's work."
Microsoft's leaked Xbox 720 document that was released into the wilds of the Internet a few months back detailed a better Kinect with higher accuracy, improved 3D support, camera quality and voice recognition, and simulteanous 4-player functionality and tracking.
What do you think about the image? What do you think about Kinect 2.0. and what it needs to succeed alongside the next Xbox?
