The Walking Dead won't be released on consoles in Australia

Telltale Games has crushed hopes and dreams this morning by confirming The Walking Dead -- based on the popular comics of the same name -- will not be released on PS3 or Xbox 360 in Australia.

Strangely, they cite classification concerns, and yet it is available to download right now, in Australia, on Steam.

"Sorry, but due to the OFLC ratings laws in Australia and New Zealand, and the fact that this is a mature game, we do not currently have plans to release the game there on consoles," a rep wrote on the official Telltale forums.

As it stands, it hasn't been refused classification and doesn't even appear to have been classified (resulting in a murky grey area surrounding its Steam release without an obvious Australian classification).

We've been playing it all morning in the MMGN office, and don't think there's much to risk. Unless something crazy happens in the final hour of the game, it should easily satisfy the requirements for an MA15+ rating.

Yes
Seriously the gayest thing thats happened in a very long time. I cant believe Telltale left it till the release day to tell an entire country "psych! sorry, your not gonna play it"

Telltale's games aren't exactly taxing. I could probably scale it down to play it on my NetBook, which is lot more under-powered than the average family PC.

Yeah gonna order it on Steam now. Im just pissed for all PS3 and Xbox gamers out there; day of release and they're told no. WHY wasnt this told to us before? I can see Australian piracy of this game going through the roof... and they have no one but themselves to blame.
Since it hasn't been refused classification, is there anything stopping people from importing it? Or does it need to have a local classification to be valid for import?

I don't see how it not being available on PS3 or 360 would lead to people pirating the PC release.
@djrussell because its the day of american release?

Technically I believe it's meant to have a classification. I doubt they really police this though.
Mother ****ers can dieeeee [Rage] [Rage] [Rage] [Rage]
This is why you get a US account.
Xbox is Arcade DLC....hmmmmmmm

I thought it was a physical game
...so it's a downloadable game? If so, I have a US account anyway...
Just bought it on Steam- I could use my US account on PSN/SEN to buy it there if I really wanted...

Meh, I'm happy either way now :D
Booooooooooo!

It's a bit crap that they didn't submit it.

I'll just pick up a UK 2100 MSP card and buy it through the UK store then I guess.

At 400 MSP an episode that covers all five ;)
