SEGA announced massive restructuring overnight that will see the closure of publishing and distribution offices in Australia and seven European countries.
However, MCV reports that development branch Sega Studios Australia in Brisbane is not affected by the restructure.
The changes will see distribution and marketing of SEGA titles in Australia outsourced to new company Five Star Games, which is headed by former Managing Director of Sega Australia, Darren MacBeth.
"Five Star is focused exclusively on selling, marketing and distributing premium quality video games in the Australian market," said SEGA in a statement.
"SEGA is entering a new and exciting phase that will position the company as a content led organisation maximising sales with strong and balanced IP such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Total War, Football Manager and the Aliens franchise", commented Jurgen Post, COO of SEGA Europe. "The company will benefit from a clear focus and realigned strategy for our digital business and packaged goods and we are confident that this will lead to a successful future."
London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games will be the final game marketed and distributed directly by SEGA in Australia.
