Mass Effect fans who were not happy with BioWare's ending to the trilogy will be happy to know the Extended Cut DLC is arriving next week on June 26th for Xbox 360 and PC, and July 4th for PS3 for players worldwide.
As described on the BioWare Blog, Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut is a downloadable content pack that will "expand upon the events at the end of Mass Effect 3. Through additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes, the Extended Cut will include deeper insight to Commander Shepard’s journey based on player choices during the war against the Reapers."
The Extended Cut will be available to download for free and will be a 1.9GB download. The content is planned to give a sense of the ME universe's future depending on the choices made: BioWare have stated on the blog post that the Extended Cut won't fundamentally change the endings, "but rather it expands on the meaning of the original endings, and reveals greater detail on the impact of player decisions."
BioWare have also stated that in order to experience the Extended Cut, players will have to load a save game from a certain part of the game and play through to the end of the game.
The Extended Cut endings will also differ depending on choices made throughout the Mass Effect series: "multiple playthroughs with a variety of different decisions will be required to experience the variety of possibilities offered by the new content."
Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut is a free DLC digital package that is aimed to combat the heavy criticism of Mass Effect 3's controversial ending not facilitating enough impact from the player's choices. Have a look at the interview above with Casey Hudson, Mac Walters and Jessica Merizan for more on the Extended Cut.
