Heavy Rain director not concerned by long console cycle

Heavy Rain director, David Cage, says games should evolve through ideas rather than technology.

The industry is full with calls for a new generation of video game consoles, with Nintendo leading the way with its Wii U console in late 2012.

However, Mr Cage is refusing to join calls for new tech, saying his Paris-based studio, Quantic Dreams, would have little issue developing for PlayStation 3 for another five years.

“To be honest, I’m not that interested in technology or the next generation of consoles,” said Mr Cage.

“If we could continue with PlayStation 3 for another five years it would be fine with me,” he added.

Mr Cage said that the PS3 offers little technical restrictions for him and his team, and that the limitation "is much more about the ideas we have".

“When you look at the past, you realised that the technology evolved must faster than the concepts we rely on," he said.

"As an industry we have pretty much have been building the same games for fifty years, despite the platforms changing.”

Why wouldn't you be happy with better technology?
Because if you played heavy Rain and seen what they produced on the ps3 you no where he is coming from.
I like his point of view. Some of my face games didn't have the best graphics but had a great art style and inventive gameplay.

To be fair his studio haven't done much since Heavy Rain and outside the PS3 so I think him saying that is slightly 'encouraged'. Sony said they want the PS3 to have a lifecycle of atleast 5 more years so ... not sure his opinion holds much value in my eyes.
