Fifty per cent of revenue will soon be digital, claims EA

More than half of Electronic Arts's total revenue will be earned via digital distribution "not far in the future", according to interim chief financial officer, Ken Barker.

Mr Barker told an investor's earnings call that the publisher plans to launch 41 new digital titles across all digital outlets prior to March 2013.

Downloadable content is also an important part of the company's growth in the digital area, with FIFA 12 generating more than $100 million in digital revenue, with Battlefield 3 close behind.

The Origin digital distribution creator is looking to monetise its digital business even further, with the goal to create a "deep infrastructure for creating and playing our games on every device".

It was reported yesterday that Electronic Arts is investing $80 million into "fourth-gen" console development.

Chief executive, John Riccitiello, predicted future gain for console gaming in the near future, with EA hoping to expand its research and development into next-generation hardware.

personally I think some of the pricing on digital distribution is ridiculous, no wonder they're expecting a huge upsurge in revenue.

some of the dlc we get these days are a rort hidden to look like its keeping the game fresh and supported.
