During their E3 2009 keynote speech, Microsoft announced an all-new streaming service for XBOX Live called "Instant On". The service will allow streaming of full 1080p HD movies and TV shows at any time with no wait. It will also include Zune format.
This service is supposed to be separate from Netflix, which is currently available in the US.
Microsoft also announced that Sky TV will be available to UK and Ireland 360 users, allowing them watch streaming TV through their XBOX 360 without the need of extra hardware.
Microsoft also confirmed movie streaming for other countries. In an official statement from Microsoft:
In addition, Microsoft announced it will more than double the number of markets where Xbox LIVE offers movies, growing from eight to 18, by adding Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. Xbox LIVE members in these markets will have access to instant on 1080p video.
