Battlefield 3 took a 'very significant share' from Call of Duty - EA

Battlefield 3 has shipped 15 million units since launching last October, and is expected to reach the 18 million mark by the end of March, according to EA CEO, John Riccitiello.

However, these figures represent units shipped to retailers, not units actually sold to consumers.

The company said it was happy with the success of Battlefield 3, in that it achieved exactly what it wanted it to: take a significant share from the leading competitor.

"There will be exciting new developments for the Battlefield brand as the fiscal year for 2013 progresses," said Mr Riccitiello.

"Battlefield 3 took [a] very significant share from the leading competitor on its way to being one of the biggest selling titles in EA history."

yeah and it was an awesome game until the last update them they destroyed it [Rage]
Post-launch support has been very poor recently. One major update every 6 months to fix numerous problems isn't good enough.
That was their aim? Sounds very petty

But it's better than CoD so your argument is void :P
I wish EA actually focused on making good games, rather than trying to take other companies profits. :S Just another example of how EA is turning into a worse and worse company by the day.

But MW3 beat all COD records. Someone be lying [MOG]

Funnily enough, not really. IW are releasing patches and content more frequently. Nothing compared to 3arc, but still more than DICE.

I think DICE has lost the perspective and with EA, are heading in the CoD ($$$) direction.

This = reason why DICE are becoming money-whores.
EA is slowly joining the Dark Side.

Gameplay wise it really is. Since it's more 'realistic' than what the easy 'arcadey' type game CoD is. Atleast how i see it.

Alot of people just prefer CoD because it's been around longer and had that time to impact it's self in a fanbase and claim the throne. BF just came late too the party. lul.

this, not sure what they're basing their figures on. It obviously sold well but I don't see what they took away from COD
That is why they always **** up the PC figures, they never consider non-retail sales. Someone on here was going on about the PC version being heavily pirated because of the amount of people playing vs sales figures. Not the case, just the majority did not buy a hard copy. Hell I bought 2 digital copies.

Same reason people thing PC gaming is a million times more dead than it is. Triple the sales figures you see and thats more like reality. Most of us only buy digital so it isn't recorded.

Battlefield franchise is older than Call of Duty.
I've been playing BF games for 10 years and CoD 9 years. CoD became popular because when XB360 came out CoD2 was their launch game title and XBLive made online gaming on consoles popular. When I had my XB360 the 1st online game I played it on was CoD2 and probably many XB360 owners did. CoD2 sold alot due to its online community. Battlefield was mostly a PC community so thats why it wasn't mainstream but after they released BF2: Modern Combat on XB360 the BF name become popular on console because people like the game of its modern setting and big massive battles. Activision was worried that its WWII theme FPS CoD games will not attract gamers so they published CoD4 Modern Warfare which was a big gamble because CoD fans might not like the new change from WWII to Modern settings and new gameplay but that gamble payed off and now CoD is the top selling FPS.

To me CoD franchise had their many influence of from other games for example in CoD was trying to be like Medal of Honor and Counter Strike then in CoD3 they put tanks, vehicles and big open maps in multiplayer trying to be like Battlefield, CoD4 was in modern theme setting which BF2 was 1st.
After CoD4 other FPS games are having their influence from CoD games like perks, killstreak rewards and etc.

I'm not saying CoD is crap I admire Activision of their struggle trying to make CoD be on top of the list in their early years and their risk all payed off in the end so as a business stand point they r good just hope they keep it.

But I play more Battlefield multiplayer games than CoD because I just like the big massive battles but I like CoD's Campaign n co-op.
