Achievements will earn Xbox Rewards later this year

Xbox Live Rewards, a rewards initiative run by Microsoft for a few years, has announced there will be new ways to earn Rewards based on your Achievements later this year.

Their twitter account earlier this week announced: "We've hit 50,000 followers, which means it's time for an announcement! Coming Fall: a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements!"

Beyond the announcement, no other details were provided, but it's interesting to hear of Microsoft rewarding gamers based on achievements they earn, and how they will implement this successfully when, over the course of the 360's six-year life-span, many existing users have already earned well over a couple of thousand achievements and gamerscore.

only if they reward people who have already gotten a lot. if not, the people that have been achievement hunting will be very angry...

plus its unfair if they only reward people who start doing it after they implement it

I agree-it would suck a bit if you only got rewards for points earned after that time.

I've got just over 30,000 gamerscore and probably well over a thousand individual achievements earned. There are others who are in the hundreds of thousands. It's going to be interesting to see how the program will cater to the existing players with such high scores. I just hope they manage to implement something fair or logical. Their rewards system in the past has only given me a few hundred MS points for 3 years, which isn't exactly rewarding.

i doubt they will retroactively reward people, it will probably be whoever does whatever thing per month gets # of reward points

How about wiping theirs scores and blocking their consoles. ???
Sounds Hypocritical now doesn't it.

I expect them to be stuff like a Halo avatar skin for finishing Halo Reach's experience or a few MS points off a sequel to an XBLA game for finishing its achievements (taking a bite out of PS+ with that one). (*)
