Title as suggested ^_^ and holy crap I can't believe that we are already onto our 3rd thread, that's over 200 pages of car talk. We need cars.mmgn [Shifty]

For reference here's the previous threads:
First thread pc.mmgn.com/...
Second thread pc.mmgn.com/...
Car Modification thread pc.mmgn.com/...

PLEASE RE-SIZE ANY EMBEDDED IMAGES! either re-size them or just post a link to their location, large images make the page take longer to load and it kills anyone accessing the thread via the mobile app

Thank you.
Righto MR Spell-Check
Maybe the dude is just sick of phone calls, I remember when I had my Civic listed I got sick of people calling and asking the same god dam questions that have already been answered in the add.
eg. "Is is VTEC" or "how many K's does it have?" and "Where abouts are you located?"

...all of this info is in the listing. Do they even read the words or just look at the pictures [Rage]

So yeah he could be at that state :P

Back to my stereo purchasing, before I run out and buy the Kenwood listed on eBay I'll do the rounds of my local Autobarn and JB JiFi's. I doubt it will be cheaper than what I've seen listed on eBay but I might be able to haggle a bit if I lump in the installation.

Just make sure they install it properly rather then twist the wires together and cover them in packing tape.

Thats how the head unit was in the falcon.

That's sounds like a rush backyard job. I'm hoping that when they install the head unit that they use a plug in loom. I might have to put the stock one back in when it comes time to sell it.
just do it yourself then. no one pays for car install unless you are getting custom fibreglass and stuff. just buy the two looms u need off ebay for 20 bux each and plug em in yourself.

so many guides for commodores on the net

I know I can do I just chose not to, all it takes is for me to snap one clip and the center console will look like crap, I'd rather have someone to blame if that happens.
I remember my having the old Hanes manual out and pulling my entire VS apart but that was a pretty cheap car even back then. Forgive me if I'm a little cautious with this car.
Guyver. PM me I'll work out a deal for you if you want? Your in Melbourne yer? Cab probs help you install too.

Really that's awesome especially when I tell you this story.

I spent the better part of my morning going to all the Autobarns and JB-HiFi's in my area. The best deal I could find was at JB-HiHi Dandenong. They had a JBL double Din screen which had MP3 playback, Bluetooth, USB touch screen, pre-amp out and more for only 260 bucks. I thought that was an bargain and a half and I was just about to buy it right then but when we started adding up the sot of parts I needed plus the install cost that price got up to 525 bucks. TBH it's still a pretty decent deal considering the features this head unit had, sure it wasn't a popular brand name but it had what I wanted.
I needed a fascia kit which was 44 bucks, a wiring loom for 29 bucks, antenna adapter 5 bucks, and the install cost 190 bucks, the price if higher because the blue tooth antenna for the phone connection had to be installed some where near the roof so it can pick up your voice.
All the extra bits you need plus the install really cranks up the price.

I'm still keen on that deal but I think I might hold off for a bit because something big just came up.

Use lead free solder if you can get it, its better for audio connections. :)

The next time I install a new headunit in a car I wont just tape the ends. Not worth opening up what I've got to change it while it still works though.
The only place in town that would have it is my previous place of employment... Lets just say punches may be thrown.
Think I might get that JBL touch screen head unit and shop around for a cheaper installer.

Where in Melbourne are you?

Wiring loom for Headunit $20

Antenna adapter $9

thatd be it.....

South East. Given that my budget has been blown by over a 100 bucks for this I'm getting close to putting this purchase on the back burner. I think I'd get more fun from a Cold Air Intake than a new head unit. *ponders*

Happy to come round and help you install it if you want, but yer a growler kit would be way funner :P
Finally got around to fixing some rust on my car this weekend, regos coming up so I want it looking spotless. ^_^
Not major structural rust or anything like that, the body just rusted through over the rear wheel well where 2 sheets of metal are pressed together. Chipped and grinded it out, treated it and bogged it, will paint next weekend, don't know why I waited so long to do it, its easy.
All the OTR kits I've seen require a Mafless tune and I don't really want to venture down that path sO I've been looking at kits like this.

or

Looks factory and I don't have to worry about getting a defect for dropping my MAF sensor.

Good effort, I remember scraping the rust off the wheel well in my old VS. The older Commodores like to leak water around the back tail light.
Get the Adobe Flash Player to see this video.

What about those CAIs which go over the radiator straight to the throttle body?

Whats a MAF sensor?

What are you going to do with your K&N? will it fit a VY ecotec 6? If so, I might want it, if you were going to sell it. :D
So basically they are a pod filter with a shroud?

Why not do an actual stock mod and just beef up your intake piping with the panel filter?
maf sensor is a mass air flow sensor and along with the sensor in the exhaust it provides information on how the engine is burning fuel and the efficiency of it.

i think you can get the OTR straight to the engine with a maf in them but most are mafless. i wouldnt bother with the other ones as you wont notice much difference. they are basically different versions of the stock intake
wrapping the air pipe in heatproof material would probably help a little bit, everything including the plastic parts tend to get warm or hot in the engine bay, couldn't hurt eh?

I might fit, check the parts list if you are keen.

I would go for an OTR intake but it will end up costing me a small fortune with tuning and stuff.

I think heat wrap looks messy and kills the stock look of my engine bay.

I've run into a few people that has a similar intake setup to what I linked, and they said they noticed gains without a tune.
