Today I saw an Integra and it a few basic mods on it, but the one mod that stood out and one that really bothers me is the half arsed effort of removing the spoiler. When done right it can actually make some cars that are fitted with a factory spoiler look cleaner. however when done in some kids backyard with a scewdriver and some gaffa tape it makes the car look like absolute s***. Why bother removing the spoiler if you are not going to patch up the holes properly? Having the outline of where the spiler used to sit plus a few strips of tape covering the old screw holes just looks horrible, don't know why they even bother doing that if they aren't going to finish he job.

Ok ranting done I wanted to get some suggestions of a replacement head unit for my R8. it has to be double din because that's what the factory one is. I have a max budget of around 500 bucks. a TV screen within that budget would be epic but my main priority for this upgrade is to get MP3 playback and RCA amp out plugs ready for future upgrades.

edit: even something like this www.ebay.com.au/... will probably do me just fine.

I saw a VY/VZ ute (didn't see the front) last week which had an aftermarket headunit, it was a single DIN, I'm guessing it had some aftermarket bracket/fascia.

Can you please take a photo of your dash console?

I'll take a picture tomorrow when there's some light, it's a pretty average looking head unit but it actually performs decently. The in dash 6 stacker is a bonus as well but the lack of MP3 play back is killing me.
Since the R8's come with the "premium" stereo package the speakers are half decent so upgrading the head unit will keep me happy for a while. There's speakers in each door, the parcel shelf and the dash.

just got back from one of the local car audio/alarm installers, I decided to check them out because I always see some nice cars out the front and from what I've heard they know their stuff.
Told the dude I wanted a double din head unit but he kept pushing me towards single din units and all he had in stock were Kenwood. Basically when it came down to selection he had bugger all. There were about 4 decent single din Kenwood systems that had most of the features I wanted, one even had digital radio, all of those systems were under 400 bucks. Then there was a massive leap to over 600 bucks for touch screen systems.
I asked about other brands and basic double din systems and he replies with "Single din looks better and Kenwood is reliable...".
Next stop for me will be the local JB hifi's and Autobarns. I do think I can get a decent double din system installed for around 400 bucks.
