Have you ever wanted to share DLC between two xbox's?

Well most of you wanted too, but thought it wasn't possible, but upon stumbling across this little neat tool: "The License transfer tool" i was able to get the DLC on my previous Xbox 360.

It works pretty easily, basically all the "licenses" go from Xbox A to Xbox B, and all you need to do is log on the account that purchased it and re-download it. And the DLC on Xbox A doesn't go away, you just need to be signed in with the account that bought it and it will work.

The catch? It can only be used once every 12 months, but since i had so much DLC stored up (halo 3,fallout 3, cod) it was a win-win situation in a way , so if you wanna share the DLC between your closest mate (and he doesn't mind losing the licenses) than use it here: www.xbox.com/
So let me get this straight....I transfer my licenses from my HDD to, say, my mate's HDD. I lose all my license sin the process but if I log back into my account I can download them all again without paying again?

Licenses are linked to your xbox, not HDD.

You keep all the DLC you have downloaded on your xbox, and your mate can log into your GT (after recovering) to download it. The bad thing is that you lose the license, so if the data gets corrupted or you delete it/want it back, you cant.

The best time to use this is when you have ALOT of dlc saved up. The bad thing is that you can only use it once each twelve months. It was ideal for me cause i had my own GT on my new xbox and really needed it :s
Hmmm gotcha. Sounds like a bit of risky business. What if you pay for the DLC again all up? Or will that still not work due to the license being transferred?
It's only risky if you share it with a person you believe you know, since it's not like the PS3's game sharing and it's only a one time each twelve months it should be fine.

If you buy the DLC again than that makes it associated with the xbox you bought it in i believe. But there's no point in buying DLC you have bought as you can just re-download them before transferring licenses
You can't pay for it again as it comes up "already purchased".

If you want to do this, then the best way is to download it onto their console to start with and then transfer it to yours. again, it can only be done once every 12 months. Not really worth it IMHO.

It' quite useful if you have 2 xbox's in your house, not recommended for exchanging over the internet or something. Like i said i had alot of DLC i purchased on our shared GT and i got had a new GT. In exchange for getting my DLC i got his too and he doesn't lose it, though he has to be signed into LIVE to use it properly.
Hmmm I was thinking of doing this the past week so my girlfriend didn't have to buy arcade games, I own most the good ones, well 50 of them. Why pay twice, specially when I can't use the xbox during the week because I'm at Uni. Still seems like it would be an annoying process.

Right so does each xbox have its own license ?
If so i could downloads everything i wanted on Xbox-A Then put it on Xbox-B, Then 6 months later Downloads all the new stuff on Xbox-B And put the new stuff on Xbox-A, Then Another 6 months Xbox-A will have lisence back so all the new stuff around will be put on Xbox-A And Put on Xbox-b ... And Visa Versa making a constant cycle between the xbox's ?
If you read you can only do it once every 12 months.
I've got 472 licenses across 3 consoles. I hope it's been over 12 months since the last time i did it.
Say if i was to sell my xbox to my friend, buy my own Elite 360, take my Account from the xbox im selling to my friend, recover it on the console im buying, and download all the DLC.

Would that work?
Yeah..cause it's your own account whereas this tool is for people getting a new GT
Yeah but, isn't it attached to your GT? I'm sure I've re-downloaded XBLA and DLC onto my new XBOX that I had previously already purchased on my old XBOX. I just had to redownload it.
So if I had all the Halo 3 Mappacks and wanted to give them to my best friend on his GT I could and then still be able to play and they'd still be able to play once I transferred mine back?
Most of you have lost the ability to read..I stated clearly in my first post that you could and even gave an example, cmon!

But yes you can BUT you need to sign into XBL
can u use the transfer tool to transfer different dlc on several occasions or is the transfer tool only a once a year thing too??

ex. can i transfer halo 3 maps today and cod maps next week?
hi say if iv gt an xbox and my bro wants the maps for cod waw so i do this then after i recover my account to my xbox will i still be able to play all my dlc like gears 2 maps and halo 3 maps and also if i get a new xbox and kepp the same HDD then will i still be able to go on the gears maps on that new xbox but old HDD thank you
You have to remember that the licenses are gone, the only way for your old account to play the DLC's is to have them already on the HDD and to be logged into XBL with the account. So in saying that, you shouldn't encounter any problems if you get a new xbox but keep the same HDD and GT.
Hey guy my friend stole one of my licenses i want it back but my brother Wants to keep some of the licenses can i just not the download the ones i want and then will not take it away??
If you and your brother are using different profiles, I don't see a problem.
I hope anyone still reads this but

I didnt understand well about the licence part.

Will i lose the licence and never get back? also can i change the Console Licence back to my System(or GT licence dnno what it was called) :)
When you purhase DLC it's tied to two things; your Gamer Tag and the console it was originally downloaded onto.

Anywhere you sign into Xbox Live with your Gamer Tag you can use anything you've purchased (providing it has been downloaded onto that console). So if you came to my place and downloaded an arcade game (or any other purchsed DLC) you had previously purchased, but that I had not, you would be able to play the full game. While your GT was signed in so would I. As soon as your GT is no longer signed in on my console I could no longer play that game. This is because the content is licensed to your GT.

If we were using your console I could play any DLC, games etc you had purchased as they are licenced to your console.

Now, if (for example) you transfer the license from your console to mine any previously purchased content that you download to my console will be licensed to both your console AND my console. Anything purchased after the license transfer will still be tied to your GT and which ever console it was originally downloaded onto.

So you always retain the license with your GT. You can always wait 12 months and transfer it back as well.

Does that help?
