Benefits of Installing Games to your HDD

5643 Views 25 Posts Xbox Software
So I've noticed a lot of people getting the new 250Gb Slim and are completely oblivious to the fact that they can install their games! A lot of people I know opted for the huger HDD for "demos" and "videos" and don't know how I have used up the full 120Gb on my 360!

In short, here's a quick FAQ

How do I install games to my HDD?

 • To install a game to your HDD, navigate to the Dashboard, scroll to the "Play x Game" screen and jab "Y". From there, scroll down to "Install Game"

How much space does installing a game take up?

 • Roughly 4-12GB depending on the nature of the game

Benefits

 • Makes loading times much much shorter*
 • Makes your 360 quieter
 • Prolongs the 360's laser due to it not working as strong

Anything I missed?
A cooler(heat) Xbox 360?

It's what all the cool kids do with their xbox 360? :O

Also you have 250GB it's just smarts to install some games.
I've never installed any games. :O
this was the reason I bought a 250gb for my kids instead of a 4gb I just wanna prolong the life of their new box :)
Your 360 will run cooler also...
I only have a 60GB so I only install the games i play the most, Halo's and RPG's etc..

Less chance of the games disks getting "mauled" if the console accidently moves.
The only game I have installed is smackdown vs raw 09, it made a horrible noise when the xbox was reading from the disc (which happens alot in the smackdown games) and I could barely hear my tv over it. So when I got my 250gb hdd I installed it now everything is silent when I play, lol.

Never thought about installing any other games, none of them annoy me enough, lol
I have a 4gb so i don't think its a good idea for me to :(
I wish I could, the benefits of doing it are awesome

And that is why your Xbox will break down within the next four months.
Everyone stop panicking!!!!!

I've now started installing my games onto the hard drive. [monkey]
Since my game library is pretty small I installed all my games to the hard drive, I'm glad my 360 doesn't sound like a pencil sharpener from the 1950s anymore =D

The world is at peace once again! =D
Hope you enjoy that quieter 360 [Shifty]
My 360 250gb is super quiet with games installed and yeah, as people have said above the 360 runs cooler when games are installed.

Doubt it was 12gig, the discs can only hold just over 8gig

they already sell those :)
I want a 250GB HDD if I can find one cheap, but don't really need one yet. I normally have about 5 games installed, and rarely am playing more than that at a time, so can just delete and re-install.
I only have room to have one game installed at a time [Rage]
I remember installing NBA Live 09 (I think it was) and the load times reducing to almost non-existent. Haven't noticed as big a change after installing as I did with that game.

Buy a bigger HDD :P

250GB for the original 360s are around $70-80 on eBay. Very tempting.
