hey everyone, i was talking to my mate and he was telling me that having the xbox standing up it is bad for the laser because it was not made to read on an angle or something like that and i was thinking that it was crap cause xboxs are pretty much made for standing up.
Is he talkin ****?

From what I have heard and read, it isn't the best thing to have it standing up and causes more problems then when it is laying down.

It is if you are worried about it being knocked over.

There were issues with the PS2 in the vertical position. The PS2 however is not an Xbox 360.

I researched this for a while before and after I bought my xbox and all of the conclusions pointed to... (cue drum roll)

If its gonna die, its gonna die. Some people have done everything by microsofts little "look after your xbox" instructions and got RROD after just hours or days and others have theirs locked in a dark stuffy cupboard with no ventilation and never had a problem.
There is however a video floating around youtube somewhere about the "disc scratching" issue, that states if the xbox is standing up it is not as stable as laying down which can cause vibrations that are the main reason for games getting scratched. Not to say that the same problem doesn't happen when you lay the xbox down, but the more stable it is the less impact vibrations will have on it

yeah i agree with lambie, but i think it will be better in a horizontal position.. i think it would be able to read the disc better, and the fan might work better.. but anyway thats just IMO

There's no empirical data to support your hypothesis.

Vertical is only an issue if the console is likely to be disturbed. If you have a sturdy floor and stand/cabinet it's fine.

If the Xbox is vertical, don't come a rockin'.

well when i had mine in a vertical position .. the fan got louder, and it sounded like it was working overtime.. but then when it was in horizontal postition.. well it was fine

Don't tilt your xbox while it's standing, it ruins the disc... I scrathed mass effect that way, but got the video store to fix it for me.

Always a good idea to read the instruction mannual
