wii.mmgn.com/... Well the old Shick add thread got converted into a general discussion about shaving so lets start fresh with a new discussion. For some reason the discussion of shaving got a lot of people involved.

get that laser treatment stuff.
Im going to one day along for my chest as well.

That's what I want to get. So I don't have to worry about it ever again.

Also want to get laser eye treatment. So many lasers!
I don't see why I shouldn't just get a super cheap electric razor like the barbers/hairdressers use to make it like...a 10 second job.

lol

Get thee down to The Shaver Shop and pick up a safety razor (they aren't branded razors, but they're still perfectly fine) for around $30. Then see if you can find Gillette 7 O'Clock blades at The Shaver Shop, or else you can get them on eBay for just a few bucks. Derby blades are okay as well, but can be inconsistent. Then get a badger hair brush and a block of shaving soap. After that, it's just like using a disposable razor, except it's sharper, cheaper, and faster. Just take it slow at first and apply zero pressure.

They don't shave hair; they cut hair. You will notice that barbers will still go to the straight razor to clean you up.

swordsaint said: i just read this thread and im basically in the same boat with matteh...excluding the multicoloured hair thing.
I hate shaving, it takes too long. though i do use a disposable razor and lathering out the can like you people seem to hate.
When it comes to shaving products I know basically nothing. It'd be good if I could get an easy shave that's quick, because like matteh i hate how much time it consumes. Also I don't shave SUPER frequently. I don't like getting a beard that's too long, but I don't mind having one that's a little off the skin, but by that point disposables just take WAY too much time since there's a whole lot of clogging and the razors just don't feel like they're cutting half the time.
That said, I will NEVER be a straight razor guy either. I'm not willing to sacrifice my safety. I don't feel comfortable with the idea.
I definitely need help in the shaving department.
also i dont have a dad.
blame him.

Dont you hate it when your razor clogs - oh wait.. doesnt happen with safety razors :P

It's more than how much time it consumes.

With safety razors.. not only is it a pleasant experience.. but if your technique is sound then there is no irritation and no ingrown hairs.

and you skin is nice and moisturized due to the nice cream or soap you use to lather

I need to look good to feel good. And thats exactly how it sounds.. if i get a poor shave.. or i just dont look good before leaving my house.. my day sucks!
My generation are all women [Facepalm]
sounds like a lot of effort in preperation though lol.

im not metro

im a dude who just wants to get the job done lol.

swordsaint said: sounds like a lot of effort in preperation though lol.

It takes slightly longer, but it is roughly 600% more enjoyable.

swordsaint said: sounds like a lot of effort in preperation though lol.

You can either get it out of the can .. which is piss poor stuff

or spend 1 - 2 minutes making a nice thick creamy lather which is so much better for your skin

And that 1 - 2 minute you spend .. plays such a crucial role on how good your shave will be. Your technique can be perfect but if your pre shave prep sucks.. your shave sucks
Ha, glad to see someone is in the same boat as me, @swordsaint I just want to get in, shave, and get out, as quickly as possible. I have a dad, but he was too slack to teach me how to shave, so I'm pretty much self taught, though I don't mind, what I do seems to work for me.
You know, I think part of what hinders me as well, and for all i know could be annoying other people, is having a shitty bathroom or whatever.

If i had to create a lather from a block of soap or whatever I actually have no where to put it while i'd be shaving lol.

There is no way known that could take "slightly" longer. That would take at least twice as long and I don't get irritation when I shave unless I go the wrong way with a blunt blade several times. The hair clogged in your razor comes out when you rub your thumb the opposite way a few times under water :/ I don't get why you guys make razors most use sound so difficult. They aren't any more disposable either, who the hell throws out the handle? You just change the blades like any razor.

Costly yes, but difficult? Not at all.
I don't think anyone's dad here taught them how to shave. It's a no brainer these days, with these dumb plastic razors. You just hack away and delude yourself into thinking that the stinging you're feeling is the same as the fresh tingly feeling you're supposed to get from a good shave.

I do the same, but when your beard starts to grow out a little more than stubble or a few millimetres, its not about how easy it is, it's about being time consuming.

That's what I do. ;O
$30: safety razor
$15: a good cream
Negligible: Shit loads of blades
$5-10: A decent shaving bowl

And get a nice brush ..there are diff brushes so the price varies greatly

and thats it youre set.

Then just think of how cheap blades are.. and you are set for life

That's how I do it as well, except I use a proper clipper set that you use on your normal hair as well, just whack a #1 clip on it and be done in less than a minute. And it's rare that I even do that.

What stinging feeling? I seriously do not get that. I would have thought I have reasonably sensitive skin and I really have to go all out to get irritation. I have a full on beard to keep in check each day :P

looking at a good what, one time 80 bucks?

i have no idea. im so clueless about shaving.

I like desi's suggestions, but the prep sounds annoying.

just getting a quick shave from a cheap electric razor like the hairdressers sounds most effective.

weighing up the costs though

desi's sounds like it'd cost a bit cheaper than a cheap electric razor, but overtime, it'd be more costly than a 1 time price on the eletric one.
i just run this www.shavershop.com.au/... over when my beard starts to annoy me
I have no idea. I just steal the one my dad uses to maintain his beard.

Nope. Electric razor breaks down, you buy a new one. If they for some reason stop cutting properly, you buy a new one. But quality safety razors do not break down.

desi said: But quality safety razors do not break down.

One could argue that quality electric razors do not break down. :P
sometimes i wish, out of pure lazyness, that my hair grew as fast as my beard so i'd never have to do it myself. [MOG]

No, one couldn't. :S Based on the number and complexity of moving parts, the need for a steady and constant supply of electricity, the durability and lifespan of motor brushes, and good old planned obsolescence, one cannot argue that at all.

Come to my house.
I will shave you.

is that weird [WTF]
