Can Melbourne beat GWS at the 'G this Sunday? I'm not so sure.

Not sure I wouldn't be surprised if GWS get up, they should've beaten Richmond & the Tigers have a better list than the Dees.
I'd take GWS' young list over my clubs list their midfield will be one if the best in the league in 2 years, it's funny they cut McDonald prematurely & he's still playing good footy at his age.

GWS should've beaten richmond???? did you see that game? rihcmond dominated all game, the result was never in doubt. if ANYTHING 'should've' happened its that the tigers 'should've' gotten up by 30+
They're doing quite well considering they don't have a top line player like Gary Ablett though, their contested ball stats are up there with the top 8 teams.

They have a midfield full of first round young guns & a forward line that will be very potent in a few years, I think any club would take a CHF/FF combo of Patton & Cameron.

Gold Coast have been disappointing with their injuries & lack of senior leaders but will be interesting to see what impact Jaeger O'Meara makes to their side Chris Judd mk2 according to draft experts.

Of course I watched the game or I wouldn't have said it, I should have worded it better to could've & not should've.

Richmond took it easy on them though & looked like they were playing for the bye like most clubs have been doing lately.

They hardly dominated & were very lucky to avoid getting upset by an expansion club like they did last year to GCS.

GWS will come back down to Earth. Bookmark it. They have the Sheedy factor atm. A lot of the deadwood keeping them afloat (albeit at 1-10) will be gone within 1-2 years, and they'll have 2nd, 3rd-year blues, just like GC is having.
4 points is all that matters. I would approach them like it is a practice game. Sure, they've been more intense and challenging than GC this year, but they are a class below. It is an easy win... rest players, put your onballers on the ball for less time, do whatever you need to to preserve your list. It's not complacency, it is a long season and needs to be carefully planned to last the distance.

Problem with the AFL is you lose more than 6 of your 23 games and you really have no chance of winning the flag (not in the top 4), so you can't drop a game against a bottom side. They should extend the season to play everyone twice, give them bigger lists, make them rotate every match, and the gap between the top sides and the bottom rebuilding sides closes because the top are playing lesser players. Sport is about the club/team not the individuals. That's how it works in leagues overseas, your best 11/18/22 don't play every match. This is of course, a long team dream of mine.
I'm starting to get over the AFL the sports turning into a soft joke, Thomas gets 2 weeks for a bump to the shoulder of an opponent & the umpiring standard is the worst it's ever been.

Soon with free agency it will be like the EPL with the big clubs at the top & the battlers down the bottom, I don't like the way the game is heading.

Bring on cricket & A-league season.

*Says AFL is soft
*Looking forward to cricket and soccer

:P

AFL won't go that way because of a salary cap. If anything free agency will pull some clubs into line. Business management is more important than ever. Melbourne has created "Melbourne Business Community" for the sole purpose of having third-party sponsors for free agents.
That's the joke though the AFL decide who gets to have 3rd party deals, just like they get to decide which clubs deserve priority picks.

They say clubs aren't allowed to have Judd-like deals yet Collingwood have Thomas, Pendles, Swan, Ball on huge money & are looking to fork out another $6-700k for Cloke.

As for the cricket & Aleague they aren't high contact sports & the AFL is heading down the same path, Walker & Trengove get 2 weeks for a sling tackle & others get their report thrown out the MRP is far too inconsistent.
Everyone does it man.

It's just a matter of somehow working it into the salary. So, Collingwood might offer Cloke $500,000 a year, Melbourne will offer him $600,000, but Collingwood probably offers him $100,000 in incentive of which it can off-set into the latter years of his contract, and it might work out better for him, provide more opportunities etc.
Yeah don't mind my negative ranting, mainly pissed off because the next month of footy is going to be similar to those 100 point smashings we copped last year...

I'm not sure how we're going to put a competitive side out there with 8 first choice players out playing Geelong at Skilled, a fit & firing Crows & Essendon. :*O

You know I go for Port *sigh*, we've been reasonably competitive this season haven't copped a 50+ point thrashing but take 8 of our starting 22 out & I can see it becoming a month of hell.

Add in I have to listen to every spastic media outlet talk about how many Vic clubs want our best player & how he's Geelong bound.

If Boak does want to go back to Melbourne I hope he's open to talks with the Dees as they're the only Vic club with plenty of good picks & a few SA players.

We won't get fair compo from the Cats.
Melbourne will make some moves in the off-season. Boak is one player I'd love to see at Melbourne. Pick 13 do?

I'd say one of your top 5 picks if they're only offering one pick, Travis was pick 5 has 100 games under his belt so shouldn't be worth any less than a top 10 pick without a player thrown in.

Straight swap for your captain Jack Trengove who's had a stinker of year might also be an option :P, don't think the Dees would do that though.

You know Boaks value is high he's polled a fair few votes against Melbourne clubs over the years.
No chance. It would probably be pick 13 + a fringe player like Bartrum, maybe Moloney.

How about Boak for Jones & a mid-late pick? I rate Jones but Boak is a better player.

It's all irrelevant until we find out if he wants to stay or bail but it doesn't look good & it sucks we may lose my favourite player...
Need Jones. He is our grunt, our true 'red and blue' man.

Draft is too strong this year to give away more than one top-20 pick.

It might be pick 13 + two late picks.
Grunt is an understatement. He's the only one trying half the time.
Trading established players for potential draftees is an absolute bullshit system if you ask me. Makes players and their careers seem worthless... degrading.
Boak is only going to go to Geelong if he leaves. Not sure why anyone would want to go to Melbourne and besides their draft picks they have nothing to offer, maybe Frawley if somebody needed a key defender.
If he goes to Geelong it won't be over money either as Chris Scott has said he won't be paying above odds for him when most of their stars took pay cuts to keep the group together.

Meanwhile, he left open the possibility of chasing Port Adelaide midfield star Travis Boak, who is the subject of strong speculation about a potential post-season move to Geelong to be near family.

But he said the Cats would not be making a big-money offer.

"If a player comes into the Geelong footy club from another club in the AFL, they've got to fit within our pay structure," Scott said.

"If anyone thinks they can come in here and get top dollar and come in over the top of our really good players, then they probably should look elsewhere."

Ideally if there's no top 10 pick in a package deal & Travis demands Geelong only I wouldn't mind a 3 way trade like..

Boak > Geelong
Sam Day (risky because he's still unproven) & Jolly/Tape > Port
Geelong (Ablett compo pick + first rounder) > Gold Coast
Tape is very ordinary. Sam Day would be a good get though.

Why would anyone go to GC? GWS? Port?

What's your logic? Melbourne can offer the same as anyone. What, you think players are willing to sacrifice salary for success? A vast majority wouldn't.

At least at the GC or GWS along with the money there at least was the lure of playing in a premiership fairly soon aswell with the way they were being talked up, not so sure now.
Melbourne aren't as close and I think all that has gone on with them this year on and off field as hurt them as a club in the eyes of most people which is another deciding factor.

Boak can't go as a free agent anyway so there basically has to be a trade and if as you say Melbourne won't offer their top picks than Port won't accept anything else.

Brad Ebert despite being a rare case picked Port over Geelong & Adelaide, he's having a great year & would be close to AA in a top 8 side like the Crows.

Jay Schulz is another who is as good as Mitch Clarke (also on half his salary) he didn't mind coming here so your argument is invalid :P

If its any consolation at least you got the Magner pick right, McCarthy & Pfeiffer have been more bad than good how the hell did Brisbane & GCS get Zorko & Horsley.

Also are Melbourne ever going to play Couch?
Ebert went to Port for family reasons though, which is the reason Boak will go to Geelong if he decides to leave Port.
