The LWIFOTI Thread

24225 Views 679 Posts Social
In a possibly futile attempt to keep the number of erroneus threads down, I think its a good idea to have a thread for those interesting "Look what I found on the Internet" moments.

This is not another silly thread for jokes (but feel free to let rip) but more an attempt by me to repair some of the damage I have done to this site with my non-sensical ramblings of which I think I am on the brink of repeating as I type this.

The links can be related to anything, even games/console info if you so wish.

I'll kick it off with this, looks like a blu-ray player for xbox360 is in development, by lite-on as well, (good company)

www.digitimes.com/

And here's a release schedule for both xbox 360 and ps3 for a comparative look at the showdown between the consoles.

www.gamepro.com/

anyone else find anything interesting?

note: I know theres a news section but sometimes you see things which aren't game related or do not warrant their own news item

Sorry if this thread steps on any of the gigantic toes that seem to laying about this site.

lol, the black guys always die
that sucks, im not doing very good at the normal year 9 maths :S

Congrats Tom.

Don't forget that you need to focus on your PDA's (Public Displays of Affection) this week Tom.

I assume you have to do them with young boys, or Macauly Culkin.

I do them in the mirror, being grounded and all

thanks fellas

managed to change my maths

If i didnt i wouldnt have been able to do any advanced in yr 11 or 12

And where does it use maths?

i thought it was just coding
And I thought I'd never see another picture of Tom besides his display pic

A lot of coding is based on the logical arrangement of data (all coding really) but it branches into very advanced mathematics depending on what program your using.
The only time I personally have used advanced maths in any coding sense is when I made my own spam filter,

noticing a trend in "Bayesian Spam Filters" I looked into it more, as the filter we had was simply not working.

I managed to find out that 'bayesian' actually referred to an 18th century algorithm, namely for finding patterns in random arrangements of numbers.

With the ever-evolving nature of spammers it seemed only logical to find patterns in theiur chameleon like approach to viral emailing.

Using this bayesian algorithm to build an adaptable rules engine ment I could find patterns in SPAM and with a little more work I was able to give the engine some low level inferring skills, i.e if it found a pattern with a certain level of rating it would add that pattern to its rule engine and not let them through in the future.

Maths, its everywhere..

:)
sorry for triple post admins, just one more thing:

a good write up about Optimizing Math-Intensive Applications with Fixed-Point Arithmetic, this should let you in on how maths intensive some apps can be.

lol I read that and I completely agree, some of the best film makers in the world are small companies that can't afford to make a BD movie..
For those interested in games programming, some great videos here

lol, on the topic of TV shows that make things way to difficult in order to creat drama, i hate house, there an episode where babies have 1 of 2 bacterial diseases, and rather than performing a simple gram stain (5 minute test) he treats one baby for one disease and the the other baby for the 2nd disease and one of them dies,

WTF Dr House !!
He is pretty awesome like that.

Dude, so stoked I dont live in the US, otherwise I may have gone through a few hundred 360's already..
