I met a guy on a cruise I was just on, and he said that Iced Earth are pretty good. Opinions?

They are metal, but their new stuff hasn't been as good as their older stuff.

I made my own blog for metal albums. Its sometimes updated, it depends on when my next lot of cds come in. Probably updated in 1 week or so.

I wouldn't classify Disturbed as metal, they started off 'Nu-Metal' and are now leaning more towards Hard Rock. But close enough i guess. :D

I just picked up the new Opeth live DVDs/CDs. Listened to a few tracks in the car on the way home and, oh my god, I came molten lava profusely. They play their "Blackwater Park" album in its entirety along with a vast selection of songs spanning across their 20 year career. That's over 2 hours of Opeth deliciousness. Can't bloody wait to watch the footage.

I have heard a bit of those guys on Last.fm, and I am contemplating getting some of their stuff. Is it worth it?

Absolutely.

If you're just discovering them, I suggest listening to their Blackwater Park, Damnation and Ghost Reveries albums. I find they're the best "entry level" Opeth albums.
From there, definitely get your hands on Still Life, Deliverance and Morningrise. Reason being is because the songs on those albums are generally longer and more intricate, particularly in Still Life...its definitely in my top 3 favourite concept albums of all time.
Then, of course, you can try out the rest of their discography. The aforementioned are definitely my favourite from their collection.

But in saying all this, some people find Opeth a little hit n miss. Some can't listen to their albums on end due to the lengthy and sporadic song structures, others don't particularly like the vocals/music and others, believe it or not, don't like Opeth's soft and mellow transitions/passages. The first three albums pretty much encapsulate everything that makes Opeth what they are so if you really dig those albums, you'll really like everything else they have on offer.

Also, if you can, ABSOLUTELY get your hands on their Lamentations live DVD. They play both their Damnation and Deliverance albums entirely back to back. Probably their best and most powerful recorded performance to date.
