Indie Game Chat

Let's face it - the AAA titles are a little dry at the moment, and I'm pretty sure other than Mass Effect 3, most people are still playing the staples of CoD and BF3.

There are so many indie projects across ALL platforms - there's no way I can cover them all on my own.

So let's open a thread where we can talk about, share and educate each other on what indie games we are playing at the moment, what we love and what we don't.

Right now I'm really into three indie titles.

Journey on the PS3 which is utterly amazing! If you own a PS3 take the plunge, you won't be disappointed. You can check out MMGN's full review here - ps3.mmgn.com/...

Lone Survivor which is currently on PC and Mac. It's a side-scrolling survival horror in a 16-bit (SNES, MegaDrive) graphical interface. It's really creepy, disorientating, hard and enjoyable. It's only $10 too, which nets you both the PC and Mac version. There's a thread on the PC channel at the moment if anyone is interested.

Finally the other game that has taken my fancy is Super Lemonade Factory on iOS. I'm working on a review for the Apple channel at the moment, and even though it's been out for a while, you should definitely look into it.

So what indie games are you all getting into. If you find that a certain game takes a deep interest for you, don't be scared to make a dedicated thread!
Legend of Grimrock, a grid-based, real-time dungeon crawl in the style of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. It's very good.

If you buy it directly from the dev's site, they give you a standalone installer as well as a Steam key. You can also buy it from GOG.com, or from Steam. www.grimrock.net/...

Nice, I didn't know that was out yet! I thought it was coming next week.

I thought someone would have chimed in here with Fez by now :P
That's not out yet, is it?

On the Kickstarter front there's Shadowrun Returns ( www.kickstarter.com/... ) and Faster Than Light ( www.kickstarter.com/... ), which I don't think MMGN has written articles about yet.

Shadowrun Returns is the sequel to the classic steampunk SNES RPG. Faster Than Light is a strategy game with roguelike elements, all about you in a single spaceship trying to make your way through a hostile galaxy.

Speaking of roguelikes, I recommend Brogue ( sites.google.com/... ) or The Slimy Lichmummy ( www.happyponyland.net/... ), both of which are free and (I think) multiplatform. Brogue is the most approachable and easy-to-play roguelike I've found, without sacrificing any of the emergence and freedom of more bloated roguelikes. You can also buy Dungeons of Dredmor from Steam. It's prettier and very funny. I do not recommend the newly released Hack, Slash, Loot. It is way too simplified and is almost entirely luck-based.
I am a pretty big fan of the SNES Shadowrun, so I kicked in for the kickstarter myself. As for Faster Than Light, I'll have to check it out.

Another Kickstarter I've funded is the Police Warfare. It's like an awesome version of SWAT 4, which was so damn good in my eyes [Derp]

I really want to get Fez but my 360 can't connect to the internet anymore. I think the ethernet port is screwed.
I'm playing Gemini Rue now. Got it from Steam's point-and-click pack sale.

Update: Playing Legend of Grimrock right now.

Oh look, a door.

NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE

That's better .__.
Still haven't played LoG yet. Get paid Monday, hopefully I can pick it up.

Now working on finishing Cthulhu Saves The World really quick.

I've heard good things about that game, haven't played it myself.

I was playing MacGuffin's Curse on the weekend. It comes out on the 19th, made in Australia and is genuinely awesome. Should check it out for sure!
Borderline indie titles here, but I've been playing a lot of Fez, Journey and Trails Evolution over the past few weeks.

Seems to me XBLA and PSN titles are really lifting their game. Better than most full releases this year!

How IS Journey? I've heard good things.
Journey is amazing! If you own a PS3 you simply must check it out man! I cannot stress that enough.

Oh and MacGuffin's Curse is now out and kicking ass. Pick it up on Steam or iOS today - currently on sale too!
justed picked up MacGuffin's curse downloading now
Consider yourself treated @Mystogun ;)
I'm enjoying legend of grimrock heaps! Even though I have restarted 3 times..i just wanna get my party right [Derp]

i know a game that you should review but you will loose all sanity.
Stars wars kinect [MOG]
Was just playing Legend of Grimrock. I experimented with making a party of two Rogues in the rear line using Daggers with the reach perk from the Assassination tree (can use melee weapons from the rear line) and two Fighters at the front dual-wielding shields in order to double the Evasion bonus from shield use (+7 from one shield, +14 from two, +28 with the right Armor tree perk). The idea was to have an unhittable shield wall, allowing my Rogues to wallop the enemy with joyful abandon.

It was going quite well, but I was thwarted by the fact that in order to get experience from a fight, a hero must hit the monster at least once — and you can't shield bash in this game. :( I would have had to micro swapping between weapons and shields for two characters, and combat is already micro enough.
See that's why my new game I have one fighter, one rogue and 2 mages.. Cause I'm thinking mages can fight at the back throwing flames and shit and the fighter and rogue can Use close up weapons or unarmed if need be.. Indie Game Chat
