How did you get your job?

5923 Views 97 Posts MMGN.com
Reason behind this thread is because I have been having a very hard time getting a job. I have made my resume and I have been handing out but over the year I have not had ANY luck.

So the question is, how did you get your job?

Advice and tips would also be appreciated!

Hopefully this can help me and other people for the future.
Do you have any experience?

Where have you been applying?

id like to know too,
I think the main thing is to show you are keen.

If there is somewhere you really want to work then show them how much you want that job. Call them every month or so, drop in when you can, get your face known. Let them know you want to work there and that you are quite prepared to wait but that when something opens up that you want to be the first person they consider.

Show them you have the drive.

Most of my experience is based around Agriculture, I have been applying at shops in my town.

I can try that but I don't wanna look like a pest :l
And I do show I'm keen I handed in a resume to a saddlery shop twice :P
The best thing you can do is show that you are willing to work. Dragging yourself in while you are half asleep, looking like a scruffy nerfherder isn't going to get you anywhere. When you are looking for a job you are trying to sell yourself, so do the best that you can.

Go in and be friendly, confident, dress nicely and make sure they know you are ready to work and ready to go. That's how I got my jobs before MMGN, although the process to getting this job was completely different.

Good luck!
Oh well I don't mean by hanging around every day of course.

But once a month just stopping by or every two months. Just make yourself known, let them know you are keen to be there.

I'm sure if anything does come up in that time they will remember you more so than others because you put in that little bit extra.
my mum knew someone she walked me straight up to the manager.. at the time i was working fulltime at my mums shop which was across the road.. :)
I walked in asked for a job they gave it to me
If you're happy to do anything, contacts might be your best options.

Friends of friends looking for employees can be a great way to easily get your foot in the door.

Do you own a vacuum?

Chamber maid outfit favourable.

Seriously.
I don't think we know many people that own a business but I can ask my parents. I asked my cousins GF but she said they were not employing.
Choose a skill, hone it well, tell people that you do it, convince them to pay you to do it for them.

That's how I get all my video work :P

Part time job, I just applied to Maccas online and got an interview. For a job like that you want to be available ALL THE TIME. (Cept school hours obviously, they like hiring students)

If you have any after school commitments, put them on hiatus for a month or two then get your availabilities changed. They aren't gonna hire a kid who can work Saturday afternoon and wednesday night. Just be available a lot, and yeah as everyone else said, be nice and stuff... :P
If you REALLY need a job you have to be willing to do anything. You also need self motivation, if you don't think you can get a job then you never will. You have to believe in yourself and your abilities and be out-going. No point moping around a couple shops/factories every now and then, go out everyday with the drive to be something and the hard work will eventually pay-off. I was unemployed for nearly a year before my current job and it was all down to me not being motivated enough to apply myself in all areas of job-hunting.

Fact of the matter is, if you really want a job, you have to prove it. [MOG]
If you have wicked cleavage then whip those puppies out! =D :P

Even without experience you can weasel your way into a job, for a trial at least. Make a good impression, prove that you are keen to work and willing to learn and if given a chance you wont disappoint. If you can research the company your are applying for so at least you can discuss things been shown to you.
To get my job at KFC back in the day I put down all availability (after school). That was BS since I had footy/training two days, but it got me to the interview when I could then alert them to that :P

You don't want to work with these guys, they smell. Heller never washes his beard and last time I looked there was a small rodent living in there.

Take Guyvers job it's the easiest around How did you get your job?
you could always "look retarded" buy a fake hearing aid, go crosseyed in the interview etc, cause no one wants a "discrimination lawsuit" How did you get your job?

if thats not an option then dont be to picky i would say. how old are you? what are you interested in doing in life?

I suppose actually answering your question would help, huh...

How did I get my job? Well I did really well in VCE English and Literature, and then went paintballing with everyone, and then they had a position, then I applied, wrote something I can't even remember what, then some nameless corporate lackey for MMGN offered me a writers job because:

a) I'm awesome and they know it and
b) I knew where there office was so if they rejected me I would have gone full Spec-Ops with a paintball arsenal and exacted revenge...

But in all seriousness, I just hung around long enough and got to know everyone. That's why I now head in every few days and spill beer all over the office; keeps MMGN on their toes.

Advice and tips? Sell yourself. Don't lie, lying is bad mmk. But make everything seem extravagant; ie, if you had a job at McDonalds for a year and wanted to apply at say, a menswear shop, you could say "I have extensive customer service in high-pressure situations, handling money anywhere from a hundred to several thousand dollars a day" or something to that ilk.

That's what I did, anyway. I hadn't had a job before MMGN due to familial commitments, but I know how to sell myself because I'm narcissistic and egotistic ;3

(In actuality I just met EndBoss, told him I did Computer Science, he invited me to come in to get some dev. experience and learn a few cool things.)
