Looking For A Job [Help]

Hey guys I need help as to where would be a good place to get a job at (casual.) I'm 16 and would prefer to work in retail over fast food.

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Also for it to be around the south-western sydney area, thanks.
make sure after you hand in your resume you ring them after a bit just to check up on what's happening just to show you are keen etc

Oh and the only real experience I have is building / repairing computers at my uncles shop. But I'm sure I can put that down as "Computer Technician"

Don't lie about experience though as they will see straight through you, I'm guessing you're young so they will understand that you're not going have much experience behind you.

So true that's how i became one myself!! =D!! ;)
I'm a AV technician, I like make sound and video stuff. No im actually a AV :P
I plugged in a computer once. I'm a computer technician.

Every single place I have worked hated people that did that.
Big corporation type places prefer online or for you to ask for a application form to fill out, no resume required.
Well those would be at least Target and McDonalds :P

Don't knock Fast Food places dude, working in such close proximity to other people helps you build really solid relationships.

You definitely aren't a grammar technician.

Thats basically it lol
Nope, but happy with what I have.

I don't think I got a job when I was 16. Besides from work experience at the library, I now work there part time which furthered my carrier to obtain another job in the library as a Digtal Media Techinition which also got me another job from a reference as a AV Techinition at the Wheeler center.

I still work all three jobs on a regular bases and get paid at a casual rate. It's not the best maybe but I love what I do at all three jobs. Each job gives me something new, best part is that you get a variety of events from star Treck conventions, movies, to gaming events through out the year.

You may only be 16 and just want to earn cash but put yourself in a place that you will enjoy and maybe further your career in.

I may work three jobs but it's the only three jobs I have worked since from first job when i was 18. Plus the casual rate is great [monkey]
Not sure about the age limit but recruitment agencies might get you some work.

Some recruitment agencies requires experience in job types they deal with, and some don't. It's best to check with your local job search agency - need to register with CentreLink first.

Seriously, it should be pretty easy to get a job at 16, you're so cheap. Just take anything though. Fast food isn't actually that bad, and if you don't like it after 6 months, the experience will get you another job.

I think back and can't believe the shit money I used to work for, sucks to be young starting off.

Try working in the US, the money there is appalling. Kids live like kings here in comparison to their adult minimum wage.
that's true heller, but that's because of the sheer capitalism upon which their society is built. but most would triple, quadriple or even quintuple their wage simply on customary tips. factor in how cheap all their food is, and their problems in paying bills aren't dissimilar from what australians face.

though that's not entirely accurate, because not everyone has a job which brings in random people & opportunity for tipping. can't imagine how poor a first year desk job would pay!

On the contrary, the stories I've heard say that a lot of people are reliant on tips to make ends meet. Whether this is because the base pay is low, or because they are living outside their means, remains up for debate.
I need a nightfill job, but I don't want to work at a bottleshop or BP for fear of getting stabbed =/

You should probably just do what the rest of the 16 year olds do and hit up a Woolies or Maccas. I know you might not like it, but as previously mentioned, it does build relationships, pays money, and most importantly, gives you something to put down on your resume for bigger jobs.

You might also like to try your luck at the ANZ stadium. I have a friend who is 16 and scored a job there, although it was with his parents' connections, but he says that the interviewees were overly lax and casual so all you need is a semi-formal attire and your *possibly* set. The pay was really good, too. He earned about $22/hr on normal working conditions and now he's earning $28-30/hr since he was promoted to a team leader (he's still 16). I hear his pay is 1.5x or 2x on holidays and major events, like that K-pop concert not too long ago.

Aren't they paid a low base to make them need tips to survive so they offer better service?

It's hard for us to compare, as a $3 per hour base rate may seem terrible to us, but it'd certainly buy way more there and we don't really understand how tips increase it.
I'm 14 and I want a job. I want so much things but don't have the money. Last holiday I worked at my local tennis centre teaching the summer camp. I got $40 in 3 hours. But I need something to do thats not during the holidays!

I'm not going to do this now but what do you write in a resume?
Drop out of school and become a tradesman. That's what I did on my 15th birthday and I was fully qualified by the time I hit 18. Everyone likes young people who know what they're doing and can basically build you a house.

Anyone need a house built and fitted while I'm here ? :P

I'm pretty sure most schools do some sort of careers thing in Year 10 that teaches you how to write a resume. Or you could just look it up on Google.

Minimum wage earners in Australia are in the top 2% richest people in the world, apparently.

KFC will take you at 14 :P
Our cost of living is one of the highest to make up for it though (evil).
Saw the other day that supermarket workers in the UK earn on average 7 pounds an hour, so $10. Here you are earning $20+ pretty much anywhere.

This is full wages, you will be earning the $10 from 15.

14 and 9 months is generally the rule.
