Improving the MMGN Experience

At the moment at MMGN HQ we are brainstorming ways to improve the current MMGN experience.

As with anything we do, we want community involvement, because everything we do is initiated by the feedback and interaction we get from you guys, so before we do anything, we want to ensure it's in the best interests of the community.

The idea is to add a bit of a competitive flair to the experience, without compromising what we currently love about MMGN.

Kudos Replacement

At the core of any future changes will be a unified system that implements contribution reward (currently Kudos) into a deeper, more quality-focused system.

The idea is to replace "Kudos" with something everyone can associate with immediately, not just MMGN members. At the moment we have considered "XP", although we are still brainstorming new names.

Any change wouldn't completely replace the Kudos points: if you have 100,000 Kudos you will have 100,000 XP -- nothing would change in that regard, so don't worry about losing your Kudos.

"Like" System

We are thinking of ways to rank content and contribution based on quality and not quantity, much like how the current MMGN Community Member of the Week award is chosen.

The current idea is to add a "Like" feature to posts and comments on MMGN: every single post in the forums or comments will have a "Like" or "Disagree" option, which allows members to essentially rate the quality of your post: "Like" means they agree, "Disagree" means they think you're wrong.

Levels

Any new XP system would dictate your "Level". For example:

1-100 XP = Level 1
1000 XP = Level 10
100,000 XP = Level 100 etc etc

Levels would unlock MMGN perks, such as profile customization, username colours etc. etc. Many of you would automatically have access to these perks, as many of you already have 100,000 Kudos/XP

Achievements

Achievements (just a brainstorming name atm) are unlocked via contribution and interaction. For example:

Submit 1 video = 1 Achievement that rewards 10 XP
Submit 100 videos = 1 Achievement that rewards 1000 XP (for example)

Achievements = XP + badges

Rankings

All of these ideas will blend into one unified Ranking system. We will have rankings for:

Most Liked Member (member with the most "Likes")
Hottest Article (article with the most "Likes")
Achievement Rankings (members with the most Achievements)

etc. etc.

These are all just ideas at the moment and still in very early stages -- NONE of this is confirmed.

But the direction we want to go in will be similar: ideally, we want everything to have a ranking element, so that the community can rank content and contributions.

All of this will also be implemented into a better Profile system.

Search works now, but it shows earliest first, which means the latest content don't appears, because there is obviously a cap on the amount of searches.

We used to get great results from searches before the sites merged, I don't know why it's so different now though. :S

Can we please have, in news, articles and reviews sections, a link for "My News" or "My Reviews" or "My Articles"? We used to have that in the MySites and it was good to keep a track of how your content was going. :)
