Mortal Kombat Appreciation Thread

There ain't any general MK threads so here's one to discuss whatever MK related things you want.... though that's probably unlikely to happen much, thanks to the decline in the series.

Anyway, I just felt like saying that I picked up a Midway classics disc for PS2 with MKII and 3, and my god, they are still so awesome to this day. I thought they would have aged a lot, but they're a million times better than the newer MKs.
So glad Kung Lao Is back, I was extremely disappointed when they didn't put him into MKvDCU. :'(

Do you play them with the Joystick or something?

Yeah, I have a proper arcade joystick.

Oh I hate those things [Rage] I grew up playing them on SNES and stuff. Always with the D-Pad!

The D-pad/Analog stick Is actually alright on the 360, I Cannot stand the damned PS3 ones though, The D-pad as horrible and the sticks feels as If It they were going to snap In two If you put a little pressure -_-.
I like the PS3 D-Pad :P But I prefer my keyboard because I'm just used to it.

I have an arcade joystick, bought one after hearing people rave on about how great they were for fighting games. Their totally crap though, playing SSF4 with one is nigh on impossible for me plus my hands ache after little use. D-pads are the way but for me both PS3 and 360 D-pads are terrible being only 4-way it's hard to pull off certain moves. Whatever happened to 8-way d-pads? The Sega Saturn perfected the D-pad why no one has ever replicated it i have no idea. But keyboards for fighting games? No! use a gamepad or something... :P

Let me guess: you bought a cheap one, right? My $300 arcade stick is flawless.
Again how's the d-pad better than a keyboard?

I bought the streetfighter 4 tournament edition for £150

Well you hold a pad and use your thumb where with a keyboard you use your fingertips which for me would be awkward for fast paced fighting games.
I use 3 fingers to your one thumb :p
so far, none (or neither) of the fatalities have disappointed me :)
cant wait for this game.

You bought a MadCatz fightstick. That's the problem.

Hori make the best ones.

a lot of people only liked mortal kombat 1-3...
am i the only one who LIKED the 3d ones? dont get me wrong, i didnt like the whole walking around the arena thing, but the graphics were better, the combos were awesom, and i loved the fatalities. im talking about MKDA and MKD of course
In terms of 3D ones MK4 craps over all the others imo.
no wayyy mk:deception ftw.
characters were awesome (evil raiden, noob-smoke, etc) kombos were awesome and long, fatalities/hara-kiris were sick, 2 different fighting styles and 1 weapon style PER CHARACTER, which could also.... wait for it.... CHANGE MID-COMBO!!!

and the konquest mode was great... being able to explore all the realms was the best part... god i miss that game. anyone know if its compatible with the 360?
I think deception is compatible, don't quote me on that though. The conquest mode was great, but MK4 is still far better I reckon. Deadly Alliance and Deception had some pretty gay characters, whereas every single character in MK4 was totally awesome, and it wasn't impossible to master every single one.
i cant say anything, as i havent played MK4, but il take ur word for it lol. and i personally thought deception had decent characters... now if only deception had all of deadly alliance's characters...

The Madcatz SF4 TE is far better than the Hori you pictured.
The Madcatz features all sanwa parts compared to the Hori only having a sanwa stick.
Every where ive looked have rated the Madcatz stick higher than the Hori one...

uk.gamespot.com/...
www.eurogamer.net/...

Plus the Madcatz is easily modded with new buttons and stick where the Hori is hard to mod.
anyone here got MK vs DCU? wat do you think of it? personally i hated that they took out the fighting styles and weapons of deception, they made PG fatalities, and the combos were like a maximum of three hits (e.g. X,X,Y) but i still liked it. sub zero looked sick with the icey arms
Any news on that mature Mortal Kombat movie plug?

Bullcrap. The first thing I did was order an 8-way gate for the stick, which took about 5 minutes to install. The Hori buttons work just fine. Unless you're a top-tier, professional gamer, there's no need for the Sanwa buttons. Anyway, the Hori buttons are quick-disconnect type and are easily replaced with a set of Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons. (Although I personally prefer the Happ buttons.)

I really hope that pans out. I want to see Seven-of-Nine fighting. Rawr!

At the end of the day you assumed i had a cheap stick but ive never bought anything 'cheap'. The Madcatz SF4 TE is a nice bit of kit but it doesn't change my opinion, playing fighting games for me using a fight stick is just plain terrible. Ive spent far more time with a controller/pad and it's just my preference i can pull off moves easier and i win more often.
Yeah I have never ever liked those sticks. I think its just personal preference, but I'm far from heavily into fighting games. For me its always D-Pad or Keyboard.

But I play racing games with my keyboard too rather than a controller or my steering wheel. And in THAT case I can understand why it sounds like a crazy thing to do, its up there with playing an FPS with a controller ;)

Nowhere have I said anything about you buying a cheap fightstick. I said the problem was that you bought a MadCatz stick. /argument.
