Final Fantasy XIII...TWWWWWOOOO!
Insulting the ridiculous name, which apparently makes complete sense, is the most enjoyment FFXIII-2 will offer me. It’s got nothing to do with the game itself, I just can’t be bothered playing it.
Two copies arrived in our office recently, and even the choice of Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 was too much to think about. Starting a new RPG is a daunting proposition and I’m just not ready to make that type of commitment.
Truth be told, I’m not the biggest Final Fantasy fan. I don’t mind the occasional game, but I certainly haven’t played all of them, or even most. Come to think of it, I doubt I’ve even finished one of them.
Final Fantasy just doesn’t entice me like other JRPGs. But even that isn’t the reason I’m hesitant to begin Final Fantasy XIII-2.
There are just two many other things to play, backlogged from 2011, that the very thought of starting a massive RPG overwhelms me. I also haven’t played Final Fantasy XIII the first.
Normally playing sequels without the original title isn’t a big deal in video games. It’s not like you’re going into The Empire Strikes back without having seen A New Hope. However, the dual numerical title suggests just that.
If it were Final Fantasy 14, I would go in cold. Final Fantasy XIII TWO! tells me that I need to have played the first game.
I have no idea how accurate that is. Maybe I’m way off, but this is why marketing people exist. If the first game isn’t a prerequisite, someone should have flagged that either at the naming stage, or to make it abundantly clear during the Western promotions.
I’ve still got Skyrim to return to, and I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t quite finished Skyward Sword. Then there is the long-delayed Australian release of Star Wars: The Old Republic. If I’m any chance of allowing myself to become engrossed in such an epic MMO, I can’t be spending half my life on a new RPG first.
I’m sure Final Fantasy XIII-TWO! would be a rewarding experience, but frankly, I just can’t be bothered with such a intimidating task.
That’s right, Mum, now I’m too lazy to even play a video game.
