L.A Noire may have suffered from repetitive sequences, but it has been heralded for its ability to tell a story that rivals some of the best Hollywood movies. With Rockstar mentioning that a
L.A Noire sequel is a definite possibility, we started to ponder if we really wanted another adventure in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles.
The answer was an emphatic yes, and here's four reasons why we're looking forward to a sequel.
The Story Of Jack Kelso Is Not Over
While players really only got a brief introduction to the character, Jack Kelso is definitely ready to become the leading man in L.A Noire. The emotionally charged ending of the original has put him front and centre, and with such a rich backstory, he can definitely carry the weight of the franchise.
The real question is where will Kelso go next? With his experiences in World War II, how would he feel about the impending Cold War between the US and Russia that was prominent in the 1950's? How has he dealt with the events that ended the first game? There is certainly more to Jack Kelso than meets the eye.
Room For Improvement
One major criticism that L.A Noire received was due to its repetitiveness. Now that the major technologies have been developed and tested, this should free up the team to concentrate on crafting a great gameplay experience. That's not to say that L.A Noire was shoddy by any means, but there was certainly room for improvement.
Some variety in cases, procedures, interrogation and some bonus missions would be a nice start. With Rockstar at the helm, we could be heading towards a sequel of Red Dead Redemption proportions.
Intriguing Elements To Explore
L.A Noire harboured some rather intriguing gameplay elements, and a sequel would give the developers a chance to explore those elements a little more throughly. Discovering evidence and interrogating suspects worked well in the first outing, but we'd like to see a little more variety as to the types of evidence available in a sequel.
Relationships played a huge element in the narrative of L.A Noire, however they were all static and the player had no control over their actions. Allowing the player to form their own relationships, even if it is only via a conversation wheel ala Mass Effect would add a whole new element to the game. Please Rockstar, don't make us go bowling or drinking with our friends every five minutes though!
Evolution of Hollywood
Moving well into the 50's, a sequel would be aptly prepared to show off a new type of L.A. It seems every second week a Hollywood actress was involved in some kind of scandal, and as the city evolved, so did citizen's attitudes, values and even technology to a certain extent. The idea of exploring a city on the verge of radical change is definitely exciting. The opportunity to explore social and political change is at an all time high!
